PLANT  SHELF

You can buy my plant shelf on Etsy!

I recently became a mom...of several plants. A friend of mine moved across the country and couldn't keep her plants, so she gave hers to me. They joined my plants and seem to be getting along in spite of their less than ideal accommodations.

Arugula, orchids, strawberries, and succulents all require very different levels of sunlight and watering, not to mention their pots range in size from a 2-inch diameter to an over 15-inch diameter. My windowsill has the most sunlight, but is only 8 inches wide-not nearly enough room! I could use my kitchen counters, but I already have very little counter space so the plants would be taking up valuable real estate. The last option in my apartment is a desk across the room from my windows...where the sunlight does directly reach.

I came up with the idea to "extend" my windowsill. I scoured the internet hoping to find an easy solution. No one really had anything. I thought of buying a shelf that would be flush with the windowsill, but everything under $50 was off by about an inch. After much thought, my only solution was to make one of my own.

I made this two-legged table that becomes the new windowsill with the added bonus of the top being waterproof. The other half of the table rests on the original windowsill so that the top is supported on all four corners.

After I made it, a client said that she wanted one, so I made one for her as well. After using it for a couple months, she told me that "It [was] the perfect solution for [her] plants."
